Waste Water Treatment and the Right Valve Selection

Waste water treatment is one of the industrial processes for improving the quality of waste water that takes place in waste water treatment plants. The quality of the waste water treatment technology depends on the suitability and quality of the installed valves, because sedimentation, flow control and treatment of thick and industrial waste water place much higher demands on the used materials of the valves than, for example, drinking water treatment. This is mainly due to their viscosity and the possible content of solid or abrasive particles.

Waste water treatment technology
The first part of the wastewater treatment plant is the coarse pre-treatment, which serves to remove coarse impurities from the incoming water. Coarse material on the screen is separated here. Heavier particles settle in sand traps. Their design slows down the flow rate of waste water and the particles thus sediment. The inner construction of the knife gate valve seat prevents the sedimentation of deposits blocking the valve closing. The surface treatment of the body with a durable multilayer coating increases their resistance in a corrosive environment.

This is followed by a mechanical cleaning stage which ensures the separation of coarse or fine fractions of undiluted impurities in the waste water. This process takes place in sedimentation tanks. For drainage systems, a complete range of ABO concentric soft seated butterfly valves of the Series 900 is offered. Disc in stainless steel CF8M, according to specific operating conditions with Rilsan or Halar coating, ie coatings with high corrosion resistance and suitable for installations with the presence of chemical residues or for process waters with coarse impurities. The valves are offered as a standard with EPDM/NBR seats, for applications requiring resistance to mechanical wear we recommend a special FLUCAST seats.

It is also necessary to reduce the phosphorus concentration in the wastewater before the outflow. The precipitated phosphate forms flakes which settle in the sedimentation tanks. These are used to sediment the activated sludge from the treated water. Purified water is already draining from them, at which the respective concentrations of pollutants are observed. They present good chemical resistance and ensure safe flow control. Sludge and gas management are also an integral part of wastewater treatment plants. Sludge is formed by sedimentation in sedimentation tanks and further by sedimentation of activated sludge in settling tanks. During the stabilization of sludge, biogas is developed, which is collected in a gas tank and subsequently used as an energy source for a given wastewater treatment plant. Distribution and transport of biogas is enabled by “974” valves with EPI (Epichlorohydrin) seat.
