Why is Fire Safe certification important?
In critical industrial operations, small details can make a significant difference during emergency situations. That is why Fire Safe certification is increasingly specified in new projects. It confirms that the valve has been tested in accordance with international standards and is designed to maintain its sealing function even in the event of a fire.
Fire Safe butterfly valves are widely used in power generation, the chemical and petrochemical industries, refineries, gas distribution, and other applications where safety is a key criterion when selecting shut-off valves.
How is a Fire Safe test performed?
The tests are conducted by an accredited third-party laboratory and confirmed the valve’s ability to maintain its integrity and sealing performance under fire conditions, meeting the stringent requirements of both international standards - API 607 and ISO 10497.
To obtain Fire Safe certification, the valve must successfully pass a demanding fire test that simulates real fire conditions. The butterfly valve is installed in a pressurized test pipeline and placed inside a furnace, where it is exposed to temperatures of up to 1,000 °C for 30 minutes. During the test, leakage is continuously monitored, and any media leakage must remain within the limits specified by the applicable standard. According to ISO 10497, the maximum allowable leakage for a DN200 valve is 800 ml per minute. Our valve recorded zero leakage throughout the test, significantly exceeding the requirements of both standards.
After the fire exposure, the valve undergoes controlled cooling followed by an operational inspection. It must remain fully operable, and after depressurization its external tightness is verified, particularly around the stem packing and pivot seal.
Successfully passing the Fire Safe test gives customers confidence that the valve is suitable for processes where a fire could result in the release of flammable or otherwise hazardous media. A Fire Safe certified valve helps reduce the risk of fire escalation or explosion and contributes to the protection of personnel, process equipment, and the environment. Even after exposure to extreme temperatures, it retains its essential sealing and shut-off capabilities.
High performance butterfly valves Series 2E Fire Safe
High performance butterfly valves Series 2E Fire Safe are designed for demanding industrial applications where reliability, long service life, and minimal maintenance are essential. The double offset design reduces contact between the disc and seat during opening and closing, minimizing seat wear, extending valve life, and providing low operating torque. Thanks to their high tightness, the valves maintain reliable performance even under changing pressure and temperature conditions.
High performance butterfly valves Series 2E Fire Safe feature a Fire Safe sealing system combining R-PTFE and 316 stainless steel, providing excellent sealing performance during normal operation while maintaining the valve's safety function in the event of a fire.
High performance butterfly valves Series 2E Fire Safe are available in sizes DN 50 –600 (larger sizes available on request) and, depending on the selected seat material, are suitable for operating temperatures up to +325 °C. The valves are designed for water, steam, condensate, petroleum products, fuels, natural gas, air, and many other industrial media.
Triple Offset Butterfly Valves Series 3E
Triple offset butterfly valves Series 3E are designed for applications involving high temperatures, elevated pressures, and demanding operating conditions. The triple offset design provides virtually friction-free movement between the sealing surfaces during opening and closing, minimizing wear, extending service life, and maintaining excellent tightness even under frequent cycling.
A key feature of the triple offset butterfly valves Series 3E is its laminated stainless steel and graphite seal, which ensures reliable sealing performance even at high operating temperatures and with demanding process media. Like the 2E Series, the complete 3E range is now Fire Safe certified, expanding its suitability for safety-critical applications.
Standard triple offset butterfly valves Series 3E are manufactured in sizes DN 50–600 (larger sizes available on request) for operating temperatures up to 550 °C. Very few manufacturers worldwide offer triple offset butterfly valves in DN50 size, and even fewer have obtained independent Fire Safe certification for such a compact design. They are primarily intended for steam, condensate, petroleum products, natural gas, chemical media, and other demanding industrial applications.
